The creative workshops in Bulgaria started later than planned because of the difficulty we encountered in finding women willing to talk openly about such a sensitive issue. Eventually we started the workshops in June 2008 with a core group of 13 women, Muslims and Christians.
The workshops were led by facilitator Nina Berova. Unlike the other teams we built the sessions around the core script of a play that Kiril Topalov, a Bulgarian playwright  and partner to this project wrote. In the play, the emphasis is on the issues related to the hijab as these appear in Europe and not only in Bulgaria and based on extensive research. During the course of the workshop participants experiemented with drawing, singing and dance.  Take a look below at the drawings made by participants and inspired by the hijab.
