Research Objectives
- To explore the custom of hijab in the Muslim tradition
- To document the debate around the hijab, identifying and analysing the main themes that underlie its use (or non-use) as perceived by European and Muslim societies
- To collect and present socio-demographic information of the (female) Muslim population in each of the participating countries (Bulgaria, Greece, Italy) and in Europe as a whole
- To analyse the historical and current position (religious, social, cultural and political) of the Muslim population in each participating country and generally in Europe, particularly of women and with special reference to the hijab
- To suggest how these themes may guide the creative expression workshops and play.
